Procedure

Install JetBrains Toolbox and IntelliJ or PyCharm

Install JetBrains Toolbox from the official site (or Homebrew cask), then use Toolbox to install IntelliJ IDEA and/or PyCharm.

  1. Install JetBrains Toolbox from https://www.jetbrains.com/toolbox-app/ pe

    Install JetBrains Toolbox from https://www.jetbrains.com/toolbox-app/ per https://www.jetbrains.com/help/toolbox-app/installation.html . Windows: run the .exe installer. macOS: open the .dmg and drag JetBrains Toolbox to Applications (or: brew install --cask jetbrains-toolbox). Linux: download the .tar.gz, extract to a user-owned directory (for example ~/.local/share), then run ./bin/jetbrains-toolbox from that extract.

  2. Open Toolbox, optionally sign in to your JetBrains Account, then install

    Open Toolbox, optionally sign in to your JetBrains Account, then install IntelliJ IDEA and/or PyCharm (Community or Ultimate as needed). Confirm the IDE launches from Toolbox.

  3. Verify success: Toolbox lists the installed IDE(s), and launching Intell

    Verify success: Toolbox lists the installed IDE(s), and launching IntelliJ IDEA or PyCharm opens the welcome screen without install errors.
